About Dan Malo, course instructor

Dan Malo is a NERC Certified System Operator, a Certified Electrical Engineering Technologist (C.E.T), with 25 years of electric utility operations experience, and an Emergency Services Instructor with 10 years experience in the fire fighting services. He developed Bulk Electrical System Technology I (B.E.S.T. I) a NERC certified, 21 CEH learning activity to teach electrical technology as it applies to operating the Bulk Electrical System (BES).

Education:

Dan enrolled in the Electrical Engineering Technology program at Red River College of Applied Arts, Science & Technology, complementing his apprenticeship training as a Power Electrician and System Operator, to achieve his Certified Electrical Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) certification.

Dan is also a Certified Level 1 firefighter, and one of his rural fire department’s emergency services instructors.

Experience:

Dan has extensive experience on the BES; 12 years as a System Operator and 13 years as a Power Electrician in the maintenance, construction, and production departments of Manitoba Hydro.

Dan initiated and led the process to achieve national accreditation of Manitoba Hydro’s system operator training program by the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board (CTAB). The 6 page technology benchmark document he drafted, added to this application process, is now used by the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists (CCTT) to describe the newly recognized profession, “Power System Engineering Technician”.

Dan has also worked as a consultant for Manitoba Hydro International (MHI), assisting with the development and delivery of training courses for system operators at the Saudi Electric Company (SEC) in Saudi Arabia.

and that the provider adheres to NERC CE Program Criteria.”
